How to Keep Roses Looking Their Best in Hot Weather
This week with soaring temperatures, we’ve been talking to Mary Jinks; Country Garden Roses founder and renowned rose expert about how to keep roses looking their best during this hot weather. Here are her top tips to keep your roses looking healthy:
1. Keep the ground around the base of the rose tidy of dead leaves and weeds.
2. Keep them well mulched. Use either a well-rotted garden compost or a well-rotted farmyard manure and spread a layer of 2 to 3 inches around the base of the rose. Keeping them well mulched will help to keep the moisture in the ground.
3. Dead head weekly. Not only will this help to promote new growth and new blooms but it will also stop the rose bush wasting energy on forming hips.
4. Try to feed twice more before the end of August. At the nursery our team alternate equally between Uncle Tom’s Rose Tonic one week and Country Garden Roses Plant Magic.
