Deservedely one of the most popular Moss Roses 'William Lobb' grows vigorously up to 8ft (2.5m).
Its long, firm stems, covered in greyish brown moss, have many stout thorns and are overlaid dark grey-green, medium sized and coarse, well serrated foliage.

The semi-double large flowers are almost ragged in structure but charming nevertheless, especially when fully open when displaying the centres of golden yellow stamens that contrast so beautifully with the purplish petals which have a lavender pink reverse.
Deep down near the base, each petal is flecked with white.
There is a strong scent and the flowers appear in mid summer in great profusion.
It is useful as both a tall shrub or small climber, on walls trellises and arches, but will need a little support.
