'Essex' is one of the County series of Ground Cover roses bred by Poulsen of Denmark and Kordes of Germany.
There are nearly 20 of these low growing roses named after English counties.
This variety grows to about 2ft (60cm) high and 5ft (1.5m) across, and its dark green foliage is covetred in small , single blooms of rich deep pink, with a white center and attractive golden stamens.
Repeat blooming is continuous especially if the spent blooms are removed regularly.
The complete series are very healthy and have good disease resistance.
A tough rose that will survive neglect, and If the plant is left for a number of years without pruning and becomes too woody, then hard pruning in winter will not affect the next spring display.
